Policies and Procedures
Lunch Money
Students are in charge of their own lunch money. They may pay by the day, week, month, etc. but they are responsible for bringing it to the cafeteria. The teachers do not handle any money or take lunch counts. The sixth grade students eat with the junior high students from 11:10 – 11:40. Both the regular lunch lines and the ala cart line are available during this lunch period.
Water Bottles
Water bottles (with water only) are permitted until they cause problems. If a problem arises, water bottles will be banned for the student(s) causing the problem. There are also water fountains and sinks in the rooms. Students will not be allowed to go to the clinic to fill water bottles.
Supplies
1. All supplies should be at school and ready to use by the start of the second week of school.
2. Pencils should be sharpened before school or during “studyhall” times during the day. Use of the pencil sharpener is not allowed during instructional time. Mechanical pencils are allowed;disposables are recommended.
Supplies Needed:
A one-subject notebook is needed for each of the classes: Science, Math, & Social Studies
1 expandable file with 6 slots
#2 Pencils (for the year)
colored pencils
Box of Crayola Markers (wide)
black or blue pens
crayons
Notebook paper for all year (wide ruled)
highlighters
scissors and glue
2 lg. Boxes of Kleenex
Boys: 1 box gallon size ziplocs
Girls: 1 box quart size ziplocs
tennis shoes for P.Ed
calculator (TI 30X - IIS)
Homework
1. Students are expected to keep records of all assignments and due dates in their assignment books. Parents should be able to request the book from their student and be able to see everything that is assigned during the week and when it is due. Assignment books may be graded with or without notice.
2. All homework should be completed on time. Exceptions will be made for absences.
3. Late work may or may not be accepted (depends on circumstance). Late work that is accepted may result in points off the final grade.
4. An incorrect heading (no name, etc.) may result in points off the final grade of the assignment.
Grades
1. Grades are earned by the students!
2. Tests and quizzes may count more toward the final grade than homework.
3. Class participation is expected.
4. The lowest homework score is dropped before the final grade is calculated.
5. Work samples may be kept for conference portfolio.
Discipline Policy
A. Classroom Rules (Classroom rules are the same throughout the intermediate grades.)
Be accountable for yourself.
Choose appropriate behaviors.
Complete all assignments.
Be respectful.
*****There will be no gum chewing in the sixth grade while on the school campus. This is an automatic detention.
B. Point System for 6thgrade:
1 Point for:
forgetting supplies
late to class
rude interruptions
2 Points for:
running in halls
incomplete assignments
gum
1 – 5 Points for: (teacher determined based on severity)
disruptive behaviors
inappropriate conduct
desrespect of property or people
* If any offense is repeated too often, after school detentions will be assigned instead.
C. Consequences
5 points = loss of one recess or lunch isolation
10 points = after school detention and parent notification
15 points = after school detention, parent notification, office referral
Assault = immediate office referral
D. Rewards
An extra recess is earned by the class if less than a pre-determined number of points are accumulated for the week.
Less than 10 points per month = movie reward
Less than 10 points per quarter = ice cream treat
5 points or less all year = surprise from teacher
No points all year = pizza party with teachers
