Visual Arts Educator - Bonita Breining

Ms. Breining
Welcome back students to the 2016-2017 school year. As I embark on my second year here at TV, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I am so glad to a part of the TV community, working with staff, students and parents to create an exciting learning experience for everyone here.
I currently reside in Fairborn, Ohio with my two daughters Jourdan and Peyton. I grew up in the Historic St. Anne's Hill District of Dayton, Ohio during the 7th grade my family decided to move to Huber Heights, Ohio. I graduated from Wayne High School in 1996. My favorite subject was Art (Go Figure).
I worked for nearly two decades in business administration where I learned a multitude of skills that aid in my daily teaching preparations and strategies. In 2009, our economy took a hit and I was laid off from a great job. This was my chance to change careers and it started by attending college. I started small with Clark State Community College then attend Sinclair Community College simultaneously to complete my degree in a shorter amount of time. I received my Associate of Arts Transfer in 2011 from Clark State. I was accepted into Wright State University where I would go on to receive my Bachelors of Fine Arts and Masters in Education.
Since receiving my degree and teaching certification I have had the opportunity to work in major urban and rural environments. I have found that my greatest pleasure in teaching is watching a student find success with new skills, creating work their proud of and having their "Ah Ha" moment.  Art allows the opportunity to teach various subjects within each project such as Science, Social Studies, Math, and English. I am excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with staff on lessons enhancing our students knowledge through cross-curriculum teaching. I plan to introduce the students to a multitude of artists, art movements, and art history as well as a variety of mediums to create their own art ideas and concepts.
We have several Art Shows in the works for the upcoming school year as well as art competitions in the district that we will take part in. We will also have after school clubs for middle and high school which will include Art Club, Photo Club and Sculpting Club.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, working part time for Raise Your Brush in Troy, Ohio, apprenticing as a Sign Painter, and creating my own art. Art is not just a subject to be taught but it is in fact a way of life.
