Tri-Village School District News Article

Elementary Highlights

 · Successful implementation of OTES.  The staff worked very hard to make this transition as smooth as possible.
· Third Grade Reading Guarantee.  We went from having 20 possible retentions in the Fall to only having one in the Spring.  This can be contributed to all the hard work both the students and Third Grade staff put in over the course of 9 months.
· Successful implementation of DRA2.  DRA2 will replace DIBELS Next in grades K-3 due to DRA2 also having a fluency piece that comes with it now.
· After School Intervention Program.  This year we started an after school intervention program for grade 3-6 to help students who struggled in Math and Reading.  Two of our Title Coaches, Wanda Roberts and Matt Harman, volunteered to get this program running.  We had approximately 15 third and fourth grade students attend regularly and approximately 10 fifth and sixth grade students attend.  Both Matt and Wanda did a very nice job.
· TAG Noetic Math Challenge.  Our TAG students participated in a math challenge competing against students from around the country.  Our students represented Tri-Village well in this challenge.
· PBIS – Positive Behavior Intervention and Support.  We implemented parts of this program by starting Lunch with the Principal, Patriot of the Month, and focusing more on the students’ positive behavior rather than the negatives.
· Backpack Program.  This was a huge success mainly due to the dedication of Stephanie Benedict and her willingness to spearhead this program.  This program supplied a number of students with food for the weekend on a weekly basis.
· Watch D.O.G.S Program.  Multiple dads joined their sons or daughters for a school day throughout the year.  The Dads always enjoy coming and spending the day with their child and often leave with a greater respect for the field of education.
· Kindergarten Muffins for Moms.  The kindergarten staff invited all the moms to come in for a morning for muffins and to spend time with their child in the Kindergarten classroom.  We had nearly 100% participation from the moms.
· Patriot Partners.  The 2nd grade staff and students visited the Brethrens Home once a month to read to the residents.  Both the students and the residents enjoyed this experience on a monthly basis.
· Author Visit.  Herman Parish, the author of Amelia Bedelia visited Tri-Village Elementary and discussed his journey of becoming an author with our staff and students.  Thank you to Shawn Thomas and PATS for making this possible.
· PATS Reading Bingo Night.  Over a hundred students came to play bingo with a chance of winning books to take home and read.  There were enough books that each student at least went home with a book so they were all winners.  Again, thanks to Shawn Thomas and PATS for making this possible for our students.
· Tri-Village Book Fair.  This again was a huge success this year.  The students had the opportunity to visit the book fair throughout the week and purchase books of their choice.  Thank you to Heather Richards for all her hard work to make this possible.
· Tri-Village Math Night.  Students had the opportunity to come in and play math games one evening with the possibility of winning prizes.  Attendance was very good and staff and students had an enjoyable evening.  Thank you to Lindsay Bergman, Michelle Moeller, and all the staff volunteers to make this possible for our students.
· Professional Development.  Staff participated in a number of professional development opportunities throughout the year such as OTES Training, eTPES Training, SLO Training, Study Island Training, DRA2 Training, KRA2 Training, IMPACT K-2 Math Training just to name a few, all to better educate the students of Tri-Village Elementary.  The Safety Committee also participated in Active Shooter Training ensuring our commitment to the safety of our staff and students.
