Tri-Village holds Elementary and Junior High Spelling Bees

The students of Tri-Village Elementary and Junior High competed in the annual District Spelling Bee on Tuesday, December 17th. We held two sessions with grades 3 – 5 and 6 – 8 competing to represent Tri-Village at the County Spelling Bee later this month.

In the elementary spelling bee there were 18 participants from grades 3-5. These students included Alyssa Begoon, Kylie Beisner, Luke Drew, Lauren Driver, Jerah Green, Jason Hale, Matthew Holzapfel, Audrey Mead, Madelin Mead, Elizabeth Moore, Jerin Necessary, Celeste Reichard, Torie Richards, Kyrsten Ross, Jacob Siegrist, Cassidy Smith, Mahala Townsend, and Loraligh Waters. The elementary spelling bee went eight rounds to determine the winner. Torie Richards was crowned the champion by spelling the word “science”. Four additional rounds were completed to decide Matthew Holzapfel as the runner-up.

There were 19 participants in the junior high spelling bee, grades 6-8. The participants were Alia Ayette, Brylee Brown, Jaramiah Byrd, Darren Callihan, Dillon Callihan, Mason Coby, Cassidy Ditty, Elijah Driver, Maddie Downing, Damien Edwards, Distiny Lee, Isabelle Middleton, Mia Middleton, Grace Moore, Allison Ricker, Marissa Roark, Macy Schepis, Morgan Sparks, and William White. The students completed nine rounds with the winning word being “extinguish”. Macy Schepis walked away with the top honor, while Darren Callihan was named runner-up.

The winners will compete in the County Spelling Bee held at Franklin Monroe on January 30th, at 1:00 pm. Congratulations Macy, Torie, and all the participants!
