1:1 Initiative for the 2018-2019 School Year

Dear Parents,

We are excited to inform you that the Tri-Village Local School District will continue to move forward with our 1:1 initiative in the 2018-2019 school year. The District recognizes that education, much like the world, is changing exponentially and our goal is to equip our students and staff with useful tools for learning.  We hope this initiative will bring the 21st Century to the forefront, as well as engage your children in additional critical thinking, collaboration and communication activities.

In 2015, The Tri-Village School District began purchasing and utilizing Chromebooks for students to access digital content in the classroom. Since then, the district has purchased, received grant funding and in kind donations to add an additional 500 Chromebooks to our K-12 campus. Our staff and students continue to feel the benefits of incorporating devices in daily instruction and are continuing to grow in their learning about best practices of blending the traditional classroom with digital learning.

For these reasons and more, our 1:1 initiative has continued to evolve. Beginning in August 2018, all K-6 classrooms will be equipped with at least 20 Chromebooks for instructional use and every 7-12 on campus student will be assigned a Chromebook, meaning each student will have access to and be responsible for a Chromebook throughout the school day. For now, students will be using this device in school only but as a staff we will continue to evaluate the needs of students when deciding about future use outside of school.

Deployment of Chromebooks for our 7-12 students will take place upon their return in August. However, before a student entering grades 7-12 can be assigned a District owned Chromebook, a parent or guardian must attend a 30- minute mandatory training session with their child prior to distribution. Extensive knowledge is required in order to implement a successful 1:1 program. We have developed in depth training for parents, students and teachers. Training for teachers began last summer and will continue this August with ongoing professional development planned throughout the school year. Parent and student training will range from Chromebook care to Internet Safety. Additionally, you will be able to ask questions, gather input on how to assist your child in managing this new responsibility and sign the required documents. Parent and student training dates are listed below. To jumpstart the process, updates about the 1:1 Chromebook program will be posted on our website throughout the summer. A reminder of the training dates and times will be sent home in early August

Training Dates and Times (Auditorium)

=         Monday, August 13 6:00-6:30 PM

=         Tuesday, August 14 7:00-7:30 PM

=         Wednesday, August 15 8:00-8:30 PM

=         Thursday, August 16 10:00-10:30 AM

The success of this initiative and implementation takes partnership of all involved including school staff, administration, students, parents and community. We invite you to be an active part of this process, so we may work together to support the importance of our students’ future and our personal commitment of lifelong learning. We invite your input and questions at any time throughout the process. Tri-Village Local School is excited about the 1:1 initiative and the endless possibilities of teaching and learning in a connected world.

Yours in Education,

Josh Sagester
